History

Our History – Celebrating 60 Years – Founded in 1964

Eden Soccer Club was officially founded in 1964, thanks to the efforts of passionate players like Fred Drummond and George Stojanovich. The club’s origins trace back to conversations among new Australians from Europe and Britain who settled in the town after World War II.

The very first Eden Soccer Club team consisted of Ray Robert, F. Drummond, W. Douglas, E. Robert, A. Pedersen, P. Moffat, T. Stojanovich, G. Brunker, K. Evans, K. Turnball, G. Stanjonvich, R. Fillter, R. Davidson, R. Sandling and P. Hodgson, and they faced off against Bombala at Bombala on Sunday 16th August 1964.

The first recorded match was played in 1964 against Bombala, with Eden showing great promise despite a 3-1 loss. Early games often took place on makeshift grounds, but the club’s growing popularity led to the establishment of dedicated fields.

Since that first game the Eden Soccer Club has transformed into The Eden Killer Whales Soccer Club and 60 years on is one of the largest clubs in the area.

Formation of the Far South Coast Soccer Association

The 70s and 80s

Achievements and Growth (1970s-1980s)

Throughout the 1970s, Eden established itself as a formidable soccer club, winning multiple local tournaments and forming strong junior teams. A significant development was the construction of a second soccer field in 1970 to support junior competitions.

During this time, community support played a crucial role, with local businesses contributing funds and equipment, such as the donation of floodlights by Fraser Motors in the 1980s.

The 90s and early 2000s

The glory years – The Rise of the Killer Whales (1990s)

In the mid-1990s, the club adopted the name “Eden Killer Whales.” This era marked significant success, including the historic 1997 season when the club won the inaugural women’s competition and secured the prestigious Fantham Cup. The first-grade team maintained an undefeated record, claiming multiple championships over subsequent years.

The dedication of players and coaches, including Steve Roche, led to a golden period where Eden captured the Fantham Cup, minor premiership, and first-grade titles simultaneously.
